A Little About Me

I grew up in the midwestern United States—think Minnesota (Go Twins!), Nebraska, Illinois—and now live in Portland, Oregon. Rain usually doesn’t need to be shoveled and the snow usually can be driven to. As can the ocean.

It was here that I discovered a love for the mountains and their landscapes and the Pacific Northwest in general. We are blessed with a diversity of landscapes and places to explore, which I try to capture and share.

A Little About What I Do

You can read more about me below, but the tldr is that I provide the following services for a variety of organizations:

  • Messaging audit and development

  • Content strategy and development

  • Marketing strategy consulting

I’ve spent my career in the world of technology, starting as a technical writer for a small manufacturing company and then documenting operating systems for Cray Research, the supercomputing company. I migrated into marketing because it became clear that the trend was to commoditization and since marketing touches all facets of a business, it seemed that’s where I could make the most difference. Besides, it’s fun.

In the subsequent years, I’ve worked at companies large and small, enjoying nearly every step of the way. Today, as a fractional CMO and marketing consultant, I generally hang out with the smart people at OrionX as we analyze and discuss HPC, AI, crypto, data centers, and other technology issues.

I also serve on the board of directors for the Mazamas, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that fosters a love of the mountains. In addition to my board duties where I serve on the Finance and Facilities Committees, as well as helped with an executive director search, I’ve also served as a climb leader and instructor.

I’m also a photographer, primarily of the outdoors.
